Feb 13 PAT 2nd African American Veteran Lineage Day Ceremony, Raleigh

Dear Friends:

On behalf of North Carolina’s more than 800,000 military service members, veterans and their families, it is my honor to invite you to participate in the North Carolina African American Veteran Lineage Day Ceremony. The NC Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (NC DMVA) will conduct the 2nd African American Veteran Lineage Day Ceremony and Documentary to honor and salute living African American service members who broke the Marines, Air Force, and Army color barriers and rose above a rank higher than cooks or stewards. These African American veterans took the oath of enlistment to serve during the WWII era, when the Armed Forces stood segregated, and participated in other campaigns such as Korea and Vietnam. Additionally, the NC DMVA will posthumously recognize two African Americans veterans and the United States Colored Troops for their impact to the U.S. Armed Forces and the State of North Carolina. During this event, the North Carolina Department of Military and Veterans Affairs will host various state and local officials, veteran service organizations, business partners and nonprofit organizations from the surrounding area.

The Ceremony will take place at the NC Museum of History, 5 E Edenton Street, Raleigh, NC 27601 on Thursday, February 13, 2020, during from 12:45 PM until 2:00 PM. Please RSVP by email to ariel.aponte@milvets.nc.gov no later than Friday, February 7, 2020. Please include the names of the attendees from your host organization.

Your attendance and participation are greatly appreciated as we seek to strengthen our programs and services for veterans, service members and their families.
