October 24-27, 2019 Rock Hill, SC
Fifty years ago, the Vietnam War divided America more than any war since the Civil War. Many soldiers accepted the call to serve…many gave their lives and those who returned home, were not recognized or remembered for their patriotism. The Vietnam Veterans Memorial was built in 1982 in an attempt to finally pay tribute to the contributions of these dedicated Americans. The memorial has become one of the most visited memorials in our nation’s capital, with more than 5.3 million visitors each year. However, many Americans have not been able to visit what has become known to many as “The Wall.”
The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund (VVMF), the organization that built The Wall, wanted to give all veterans and their family members across America an opportunity to see the memorial. Since 1996, this nearly life-size replica, bearing the names of more than 58,000 men and women has toured selected cities across the U.S. Last year, local York County veteran organizations and the City of Rock Hill worked together to secure the first-ever visit of The Wall That Heals to the upstate of South Carolina. The three-quarter scale replica will be located at the BMX River Walk Parkway and is scheduled to operate 24 hours a day for four days, October 24-27, 2019. The Rock Hill visit is one of only three 2019 stops in the Southeast.
